Antwerp call for teaching mobility in Law and Armed Conflict

Dear colleagues

Please forward the message below to your Academic staff:

The Faculty of Law of the University of Antwerp is looking forward to receiving proposals from lecturers and professors of our main partner institutions interested in teaching a part of elective courses belonging to the Transnational Law Visiting Professors Courses. The aim of these courses is to identify and describe contemporary legal issues and solutions in legal systems and to approach these from a transnational perspective so as to make the development of law across national boundaries visible. This may include a comparative, a multilevel and/or a meta-legal perspective.

With these courses our Faculty wishes to offer opportunities to staff from our partner institutions to engage in teaching staff mobility. Visiting professors will also have the opportunity to meet with research groups in their field of academic expertise while in Antwerp.

The Transnational Law Courses are elective courses, open to both Belgian and international law students (master level, 4th and 5th year of studies in law). Course attendance will be between 15 and 25 students. A Transnational Law Course is clustered around a common theme and consists of a series of guest lectures by three Transnational Law Visiting Professors. Themes in the areas of private as well as public law are welcomed. The teaching language is English.

The teaching period will be in the Academic Year of 2024-2025, in the second semester on topics of Law and Armed Conflict. The weeks are specified in the attached proposal template.

The teaching mobility takes place under the Erasmus Teaching staff mobility scheme or a similar funding scheme from your University, for which we have an agreement in place. Visiting professors will be given office and library facilities during their stay in Antwerp.

We invite interested colleagues to submit a proposal for an 8-hour course taught in English during one week (from Tuesday-Thursday, travelling on Monday and Friday), with an indication of the preferred teaching weeks. In addition to teaching the course, the visiting teacher agrees to evaluate the students. The evaluation is by marking a paper to be submitted by the students (in January or June respectively).

The course proposal (form attached) together with a cv (indicating i.a. the proficiency to teach in English) should be sent to Mrs Elise Drijbooms from our International Office Law (elise.drijbooms@uantwerpen.be) by June 30th 2024. The Faculty’s Commission for International Mobility will review and select the proposals for a final approval in accordance with our academic targets. This will be communicated by July 5th 2024.

We hope that this opportunity can be of interest for one or more junior or senior members of your faculty. It will be an honor for the Antwerp Faculty of Law to welcome them and to strengthen in this way the existing cooperation between our faculties.

We thank you in advance for your kind support to circulate this opportunity in your Faculty.
